Praetorians – symbol of strength
‘Praetorian’ comes from the word ‘praetor’, which means army commander. The praetorians were seen as a symbol of power and their presence in Rome was a sign of strength and stability. They were unique – their armour and shields were better than those of other soldiers, which showed what an important role they played in the army. The Praetorians enjoyed privileges that other soldiers did not have.
