The JSF Joint Strike Fighter programme was intended to develop a new fifth-generation all-weather fighter to replace the fighter aircraft of the United States and NATO countries. The result was the single-seater Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. The Lockheed Martin is equipped with cutting-edge technology and is characterised by an aerodynamic layout with stealth technology and trapezoidal wings. It was developed for air superiority tasks, to support other aircraft as well as for ground attacks, whereby the initial model can be configured differently. The F-35A uses conventional runways, the F-35B is designed for vertical take-off and landing and the F-35C is ideal for use on aircraft carriers with catapults. The extreme operational flexibility, the offensive load it can carry, the on-board technology and the strong innovation of the design have supported the current and future use of the F-35 A by numerous air forces.
