One of the most talked about new car introductions of the 1980s was the 1984 mid-engined, two-seat Pontiac Fiero. The Fiero, an innovative space-frame design with a plastic body, was a fuel-efficient sports car that fit perfectly into the era and quickly captured the public’s attention when Pontiac was still truly exciting. All ’84 Fieros were powered by a simple “Iron Duke” four-cylinder, but the high-performance Fiero GT, launched in 1985, also featured a more powerful 2.8-litre V6 engine with multiple fuel injection and a special aero kit for the bodywork.
