Yin Yang – Gain the favor of the gods, for 1 – 4 players, ages 9+ (DE edition)

Yin Yang stands for the dualism: black and white, good and bad, day and night … In Tai Chi these mutually complementary opposing poles are a central element. Author DuGuWei from Taiwan transports the players to ancient China, where they are supposed to walk the path of the wisdom of Tai Chi in the seven kingdoms and gain the favor of the gods. Whoever was able to collect the most victory points at the end of the game becomes a Yin-Yang master. The task is aimed at 1 – 4 people aged 9 and up and has a connoisseur level.

The process is not complicated and can be learned quickly. In order to win “Yin Yang”, however, the players must master the oracle of coins. Only those who can use the interplay of Yin and Yang perfectly for themselves will be successful in this challenge.

The most striking material are the replica turtle shell and the oracle coins. In the course of the game, the players shake their coins out of the tank like a dice cup. In this way they determine whether the yin or the yang side of the individual coins is available to them. This in turn has an influence on the options for action from which the process develops. Because sets of three or two coins result in possible black-and-white combinations with which the active can carry out certain actions. The highlight: On the one hand, the players shake the coins out of the tank, on the other hand, however, you can freely combine the result into meaningful actions as you wish. In doing so, they always have to adapt to new circumstances and possibilities.

The players move from place to place on paths and rivers, build temples in the seven kingdoms, receive goods and advance on ledges.

The coin flips influence the action options on the game board, your own tableau and on the Tai Chi tableau. Therefore, everyone is constantly required to keep an eye on the big picture and the opponents. Because these block urgently needed actions again and again.

A game runs over five rounds, each consisting of four phases. The players shake their coins out of the turtle shell. The six sides of the coin determined in this way using the “oracle toss” show yin or yang symbols. Each symbol influences the progress on your own yin and yang bar. In addition, there are various possible combinations with which each player reclaims tiles or actions on the Tai Chi tableau and blocks them for others. Then everyone combines three groups of two from their coin toss, which, depending on the combination, allow the actions “moving on land”, “moving on water”, “receiving a commodity” or “building a temple”. The order of the actions is important and can be supplemented with previously won tiles. It determines how everyone moves their figure through the regions of ancient China and where they can build temples or get goods.

Your own progress on the ledges, the goods you pick up and the temples you build bring you victory points at the end of the day. The total number decides on the victory and the championship in Yin Yang.
