Build a cabin in the sky, attach it to a balloon and experience great adventures with the steampunk airship, an imaginative miniature zeppelin made of wood. This self-built mini airship impresses with the steampunk style typical of Ugears. It features a tugboat-style cabin and porch, a wind-up rubber band motor with start/stop switch, motor-driven propellers, a rotating steering wheel, movable stabilisers and wheels that allow the model to turn back and forth on a flat surface up to 2 m – for the thrill of mechanical motion. Our original airship consists of just 170 parts and is categorised as ‘easy’, so even beginners can build this imaginative flyer.

German inventor Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin worked on his concept and design for an inflatable airship for more than twenty years before patenting his invention in 1895. Perhaps one of his early sketches resembled the steampunk airship? Commercial zeppelins have large, cylindrical bodies made of fabric stretched over a rigid metal frame and containing the large gas bags that provide buoyancy. Our airship is smaller, more personal and cosier – imagine piloting your flying machine with a cup of tea on the table where you have spread out your navigation charts.

The steampunk airship is a fun and easy DIY project for anyone with an interest in aviation or model making. You don’t need any glue or special tools to build this retro wooden airship model. With the 3D puzzles and models from Ugears, you simply punch the laser-cut parts out of the high-quality composite wood panels and stick them together. Everything you need is included in the box, including instructions in 11 languages. The model kits also include sandpaper and wax, which you can use to smooth and lubricate the moving parts to ensure the smooth operation of your steampunk airship.

The creative process doesn’t end with the assembly of the model. Let your creativity run wild by painting, colouring or staining your steampunk airship in a colour scheme of your choice (paints not included). Ugears models also look great in natural wood.
